ACCESS TO THE NEW FOREST
Funded by the YouCAN scheme, and in partnership with New Forest National Park Authority, we are pleased to be offering a series of excursions linking groups from Southampton to explorations of our neighbouring national park.
Southampton and the New Forest share deep connections: ecologically, historically and socially. The New Forest's rich biodiversity has long attracted many Southampton residents for a range of recreational activities to improve health and wellbeing. Historically too, the links between Southampton's maritime and trade heritage and the forest's export of materials has shaped the landscapes of both environments. There is a rich dynamic partnership between the two that has shaped both regions' past, present, and future, and something that we are keen to support people in connecting to.
Addressing barriers to access
Despite the depth of this relationship between Southampton and the New Forest, many still experience barriers to physically accessing the national park from the city. This is particularly true for those from marginalised and disadvantaged backgrounds.

As such we are working with communities and groups across Southampton to improve access to the New Forest. We are working with New Forest rangers and other activities partners such as Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group (SWVG) and City Life's Hope into Action programme to organise a number of trips throughout the year.
